Healthy bones are especially important to women who have gone through menopause or are estrogen-deficient. This test checks your levels of deoxypyridinolin (DPD), which indicates your rate of bone resorption.
| The deoxypyridinoline (DPD) urine test can be used to measure bone re-absorption rates in healthy individuals and in those with enhanced risk of developing metabolic bone diseases. Significantly high levels of DPD are found in post-menopausal women due to estrogen deficiency, and in individuals with diseases that have high bone turnover rates. Deoxypyridinoline can be used to monitor therapies (which may include bisphosphonate drugs) in people diagnosed with osteoporosis. Instructions Fasting is not required for this test. Take all medications as prescribed. Urine should be collected before 10 a.m. |
