A test that can be used to screen for thyroid disorders, the T3 Uptake test assesses available binding sites on thyroxine binding globulin, the protein that transports thyroid hormone. This test is often ordered in combination with the Thyroxine (T4) blood test (Item # LC001149).
| T3 uptake is an indirect measurement of available binding sites on thyroxine binding globulin; the protein that transports thyroid hormone in the blood. T3 uptake is not a measurement of T3 and should never be used alone. It is best used in conjunction with T4. T3 uptake can be abnormal with thyroid dysfunction, malnutrition, and kidney disease. Instructions Fasting is not required for this test. Take all medications as prescribed. Note Abnormal T3 uptake can be seen with use of oral contraceptives and hormone prescriptions such as testosterone and estrogen. |
