Are YOU Worried About Free Radicals?

Survey: Customers know about antioxidants—but few take glutathione supplements

A recent survey of more than 4,600 Life Extension customers found that 94% are familiar with the word "antioxidant," and nearly a quarter said they care about protecting their cells from oxidative stress.*

This concern is well placed, because being healthy starts with your cells—and some of the most important, hardworking cells in your body, like the ones in your liver and brain, are exposed to free radicals. These compounds can circulate in the body, causing unwanted cellular reactions and resulting in oxidative stress, which affects how well your cells function. Oxidative stress and overall health and well-being do not go hand-in-hand!

One way to fight oxidative stress is with antioxidants, substances that occur naturally in the body, in foods, and are offered as supplements. And yet glutathione, considered by many to be the "master antioxidant," is only consumed by 20% of those surveyed.

Part of the challenge is getting the reduced (active) form of this antioxidant. In the body, glutathione commonly exists in reduced and oxidized states. When it's in its reduced form, glutathione actively scavenges for free radicals, fulfilling its role as an antioxidant.

Fortunately, Life Extension has just added Glutathione to its product line—and this formula is the active (reduced) form, available in a powerful 500 mg dose.

Why is glutathione the “master” antioxidant?

The body makes glutathione with three amino acids: glycine, cysteine and glutamate. It's called the body's master antioxidant because it helps protect cellular activity from within the cells, but it also regenerates other antioxidants and acts as a cofactor for many enzymes. Glutathione is also involved in the metabolism of certain compounds that can increase free radical activity.

With age comes decreased glutathione levels in the body. So, if oxidative stress is on your mind, then it might be time to add a daily dose of the reduced form of glutathione to your routine.
