Antinuclear antibody (ANA) blood testing is used in the screening of autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, Sjögren’s syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus.
| This test detects antibodies to nuclear antigens. It is ordered to help screen for autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma and Sjögren’s syndrome. Additionally, it is most often used as one of the tests to diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Instructions Fasting is not required for this test. Take all medications as prescribed. Note Although a positive ANA result may suggest an autoimmune disorder, the test can be positive in people with allergies, as well as older populations without a known disease. |
